Last week, EEI’s office participated in a team-building event: a private Wine & Canvas event at Chevy’s in Greenbelt, MD. Truth be told, it was more of a margaritas, quesadillas, and canvas event, but that was okay with me!
As the Creative Director at EEI, I was especially looking forward to an afternoon of painting. I used to paint and draw all the time, but my creativity has since turned to the digital world. Over the years, I’ve been much more creative working on my MacBook than on canvas or paper. Other than to paint a wall in the house, I haven’t actually picked up a paintbrush in a few years. I’d forgotten how much of a stress reliever painting is for me. A few times, I found myself in a zone and not really listening to anyone around me. Maybe I’ll start painting again, maybe not. But it certainly was a quick reminder that I need to find creative inspiration every day. And for experienced and inexperienced painters, it was a good time.
Think about ways you can motivate your team by getting them out of the office or even just away from their desks to socialize with one another. How Design says, “Knowing how to motivate employees is not easy. In your role as a creative manager, one of your most important tasks is to take care of your staff and keep them in top form. Make this challenge a priority, and your team will continue to produce outstanding work and remain loyal to your company.”
